Don't know where it's coming from, either. Actually, I'd give it about a -5. Now it leaks water all over the counter. These things are about twice the price of the regular ones. This is a piece of junk that will be replaced once I use up the present package of coffee filters.
The milk steamer and espresso maker are hard to use, messy, and even harder to clean. It was aggravating to use, but I kinda zoned it off until it started peeing on my counter all the time. Very poorly designed. This will be retired to the zero file very soon. Don't know why they were there in the first place, as it works better without them.It takes FOREVER to brew coffee. The carafe has ALWAYS leaked coffee all over the place when you pour from it.
This coffeemaker blocks up easily with coffee grounds, and used to spew coffee all over regularly, even though I always used a coffee filter. SLOOOOOOW. We stopped using these features pretty quickly, because I got tired of cleaning up the kitchen every time my husband wanted to make me some steamed milk or espresso. Don't waste your money on this piece of junk.Edited to add that I wanted to rate it with zero stars, but it wouldn't let me. Ours is about two years old. It doesn't spew any more since the plastic pieces under the coffee grounds basket broke off.
Annoying, because this is why my husband wanted to get this particular coffeemaker. It also uses the pricey cone-shaped coffee filters instead of the cheaper basket-shaped ones.
Product definitely feels a little thin and plasticky, disappointing after my old Krups (dedicated) espresso machine which feels *very* tight and solid. Product showed up with cracked espresso carafe, but one pleasant phone call and a new replacement arrived within days. It works, though, with yummy results from both ends, a nice (small) way to have both makers combined and looking smart in our cute little c.1927 kitchen.
If I paid Amazon price of $90 it'd get 1 star But the espresso part works great, super fast (unlike the 2+ min it said it needed in the manual). It takes forever to brew regular coffee, and its 99% plastic. Add onto that the spring loaded thing to stop drips while pouring mid brew doesnt work. I paid $19 at Christmas Tree shop, so in all honesty, thats why it got 4 stars.
The stopper on the coffee basket to allow you to remove the pot before it finishes dripping is a bit drippy, but nothing a quick swipe w/ a wet rag won't solve. And I have NO problem removing the old coffee grounds from the machine without removing the whole basket (actually, I don't think I've ever even bothered removing the basket) - I guess the other reviewer that complained about it was a midget ;) The machine does exactly what it's intended to do, I use it regularily to steam milk for chai tea lattes as well as the entire espresso side for cappucino and lattes. I paid $50 for it at WalMart (FAR cheaper than on Amazon) and I'm pleased with my machine, definitely worth the price I paid.
The filter basket for coffee must be removed completely to empty grounds unless you are 10 feet tall.I have enjoyed the cappuchino and expresso I made, however the basket for the cappuchino still takes me several tries to seat properly and the cute little chrome guide broke the first night. The interrupt function works slowly. It does what it is supposed to, kind of, but not worth the cost. I got this for Christmas. It is SLOOOWWW making morning coffee. The instructions for cappuchino were unclear (despite several goods cups of joe I still have one part that I have no idea about).
